Workplace Wellness – how to build a mental health-friendly workplace
14th May 2024 | 11am to 12pm
A Network Chair session for Mental Health Awareness Week 2024
Members only event
Overworking is becoming normalised for many UK employees, which can spiral into burnout. Research in 2020 carried out by Working Families, showed that jobs were rarely ‘human sized’. Many parents and carers feel like they are part of an ‘always-on culture’, working extra hours to cope with increased workloads whilst technology blurs the work-home divide. Whilst it is encouraging that 100% of our 2023 Top Employers Benchmark offer mental health support, findings from the last year’s National Work Life Week, revealed just how big a priority wellbeing is to our post Covid work-force, with 89% of working parents stating that it has been positively impacted by access to flexible working.
According to the CIPD, we are seeing record-breaking numbers of workers taking sick leave, with stress cited as the main reason. Some staff feel forced out of work completely thanks to the dual pressures of managing their caring responsibilities with their job. To mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, we want to focus on how employers can talk about wellbeing and the tools they can offer to improve workplace wellness.
Our sessions are always a safe place for our members to participate freely in the discussion, where we share experiences and learn from one another. So please join us for this enlightening session, which will be chaired by our Relationship Managers, Diana Gilmore and Donna Patterson.
We are also delighted to be joined by our guest speaker, Claire Jones, Senior Employee Relations Advisor at Principality Building Society, who will be talking about the great work that Principality are doing to support staff wellbeing. We will also be joined by Verity Watson, Assistant Director – Employee Experience at the University of Strathclyde, who won our Best COVID-19 Response category at the 2021 Working Families Best Practice Awards, for the exceptional wellbeing support they offer their employees.
