Employment Rights Bill announced
Published: 18 Jul 2024
Working Families welcomes the announcement that the Employment Rights Bill will make flexible working the default from day one for all workers and commend the bold ambition of this policy. Years of experience working with both employers and employees tells us that good quality job design will be at the root of its success.
As an organisation we recognise that flexible working enables all kinds of people to actively participate in employment. Although we believe there is some flexibility in every role, not every role has the capacity for the same type of flexibility, and so a process of role analysis and human-to-human negotiation will determine the best outcomes for both employers and employees.
We hope to see support for organisations of all sizes to implement a practical approach to finding the flexibility in every role and support for employers to understand the value and opportunities of flexible working to enable the best solutions and to mitigate any potential conflict. We look forward to working with the government to achieve this.
