Media, Communications, Technical and Gaming focused Roundtable: Creating family friendly, hybrid workplaces

Over the last few years, we have welcomed a wide range of employers from across the above sectors, all wanting our help in creating family friendly workplaces. We will be exploring the great practice that we have seen from organisations, whilst sharing some of the challenges that exist around embedding family friendly and flexible working. Some employers over the years, have mentioned that the intense project nature of their work, has led to long working days and created cultures that can sometimes foster presenteeism. This can make it harder for those with caring responsibilities to develop their careers, particularly women.

As part of this informal discussion, we would like to discuss how working parents and carers are being supported by their employers, looking at the range of new hybrid working models that have been developed, since Covid 19 entered our lives.  Many of our members have signalled their intention to continue to offer their staff a blended approach to work, enabling them more control and choice over their working patterns. For some, this has taken the form of adopting a ‘principles approach’ to work, encouraging shared values, with a shift away from hard-lined policies.  Others are investing in staff training, to develop a shared understanding of what hybrid working really means in their workplace.  Now that we have hit the colder winter months and we are all struggling to deal with the new Covid variant, there will be an ongoing need for flexibility and line manager understanding to run alongside any newly established hybrid working models.

We have invited a few employers to open our discussion, by sharing a few thoughts of what they are doing within their workplaces. We will then invite the wider group to join the conversation.
