Roundtable – Family Friendly Working on the Frontline
12th July 2023 | 11am to 12pm
How can employers offer equitable working practices to frontline, site and shift-based staff?
Join our Relationship Managers, Diana Gilmore and Lottie Driver for a panel-free discussion on making family-friendly practices work for everyone.
Parents and carers whose roles are shift or site based can often struggle to get the same access to flexible working as their desk-based colleagues who can work from home. Working practices can vary hugely between roles within the same organisation, with access to flex often line-manager-dependent who have inconsistent approaches to managing flexible working requests. Employers run the risk of creating a ‘them and us’ working culture between those who have flex, and those who don’t.
Our recently published Working Families Index research suggested that workers from higher income families had better access to remote and hybrid working. The research showed that half of shift workers have a weekly struggle to organise childcare, and almost half felt they had little or no control over their work schedules.
But there was good news. Parents who were working flexibly were twice as likely to feel they had control over working arrangements, demonstrating the positive power of flex. Take a deep dive with us into this discussion, where we’ll walk through the steps employers can take to create a fairer, more inclusive workplace.
Our talking points will be:
- How can offering staff greater control over their work and shifts support family friendly working?
- How to create a culture of openness and flexibility, where staff feel they can respond to family situations that arise?
- What role can line managers can play?
- How can employers support the physical and mental wellbeing of site and shift-based workers?
Please de-mute yourself and dial in!
This event is for members of Working Families only, and is limited to two people per member organisation.
