The world of work has changed dramatically in the last 9 months. Many employers had to adapt quickly to facilitate full-scale remote working at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first wave of the pandemic, 85% of Working Families employer members that took part our survey said at least half of their staff had flexed their hours, and 84% said at least half of their staff had worked exclusively remotely during lockdown. Whilst presenting many challenges for employers, the lockdown proved that flexible working was available in many more jobs than previously thought possible and as a result of the enforced period of flexible working, our research shows that employers are expecting to receive more requests for remote and flexible working, especially from parents and carers.

Many employers are using this unique opportunity to evaluate and build on the progress made to date, setting out future ways of working that will deliver sustainable growth, whilst ensuring the health and wellbeing of their employees.
