Tax credits – getting in touch with HMRC

The tax credits helpline is the number you will need to contact if you want to make a claim for tax credits. If you are already claiming, you can now check your tax credits online via HMRC, report changes of circumstances and find out when your next payment will be. You can also use the online service to renew your tax credits award if you have a mobile phone, your online reference number, a national insurance number and other evidence of identity (for example, a pay slip). You can still use the helpline if you prefer, or if you are not able to prove your identity online.

You should use the helpline if you want to apply for tax credits, or ask for help in filling out the form.
