Royal Air Force – Finalist 2020, Best for Flexible Working
The RAF has a broad spectrum of flexible working policies which can complement parenthood supporting leave policies to offer individuals and their family real choice in how best to balance work and family/caring responsibilities.
Alternative Working Arrangements which include remote working (e.g. working from home), compressed hours and variable start/finish times are available. Active promotion of these has seen 45% increase in take up since December 2018. Extended, unpaid ‘Career Intermissions’ are also available.
A new policy known as Flexible Service was introduced in April 2019 which offers individuals the opportunity for part time working or to work under ‘restricted separation’ terms which limits the number of days they may be required to serve away from their home to no more than 35 days per year. Individuals may also request a combination of both.
