Flexible Working Checklist - Step 2

State the change you are asking for

There are numerous different types of flexible working. What you ask for will depend on a combination of your own/ your children's needs and the requirements of the job. Make sure you have thought about all of these factors. Examples of some of the kinds of flexible working people ask for are as follows:

A compressed working week - four longer days instead of five shorter ones - same hours and salary overall.

A nine-day fortnight - you work longer days and have a day off once every two weeks. Or you reduce your hours and salary so you work nine normal days but have a day off each fortnight.

Job sharing - you may want to work two or three days a week and share your role with someone else.

A change to your hours - e.g. you worked 8.30- 4.30 - now you want to do 9.15 - 5.15.

Or you want to still finish at 4.30 so you propose a shorter lunch break + a reduction in your hours of 1 1/4 hours a week.

You may wish to suggest more than one option to your employer; if you show flexibility this may encourage him/her to be flexible too.
